5 European Wedding Venues for 150 to 200 Guests With Water Views and a Late Party

Finding a European wedding venue for 150 guests is easy. Finding one for 200, with a water view for the ceremony, the whole place to yourselves and a party that runs past midnight, is not.

Most of the coast's prettiest villas cap out around 120 guests. Many waterfront hotels won't close to the public. And a lot of beautiful gardens sit in quiet neighborhoods where the music stops at 11pm.

We recently searched dozens of properties across France, Italy and beyond for a couple with exactly this brief. These five made the final cut. Here is what each one is really like, what it does best and what to know before you book.

1. Château de La Napoule

location: Côte d'Azur, France

Château de La Napoule: A medieval castle on the Mediterranean, 10 minutes from Cannes. An American artist couple, Henry and Marie Clews, rescued it from ruins in 1918 and spent 20 years turning it into a fantasy of towers, cloisters and sea-facing terraces.

The day: ceremony in the Lovers' Garden beneath a castle tower, cocktails on the ramparts above the bay, dinner in the cloistered courtyard, then dancing in the Gothic dining hall until 3am.

At a glance

  • Fly into Nice, about 30 minutes away

  • Ceremony garden best for up to 180 guests; the courtyard seats far more for dinner

  • Outdoor music until 11pm, dancing indoors until 3am

  • Catering from an approved list that includes Lenôtre, Potel et Chabot and two Michelin-chef reception caterers

  • Guests stay in Cannes (Martinez, Carlton, Le Majestic) or a few minutes away in Mandelieu

Good to know: the château is hired dry, so the caterer, furniture, lighting and any marquee come from its approved suppliers. Budget for those on top of the venue fee. Cannes hotels fill fast during the Film Festival in May and Cannes Lions in June.

Best for: couples who want a real castle by the sea, the widest choice of top-tier caterers and Cannes on the doorstep.

2. La Cervara

Location: Portofino, Italy

La Cervara: A medieval abbey on the Portofino promontory, with terraced Italian gardens that drop toward the sea. It is one of the few venues on the Riviera where every part of the day can happen outdoors, facing the water.

The day: ceremony in the gardens, aperitivo on the panoramic terrace with Prosecco and live mozzarella and focaccia stations, dinner under the sky, then dancing outside until as late as 4am.

At a glance

  • Fly into Genoa, about 40 minutes away, or Milan for direct flights from New York

  • A firm maximum of 180 guests

  • Music outdoors until 4am (hours after midnight are charged extra)

  • All food from the abbey's own chef and kitchen

  • 11 rooms on site, plus hotels five minutes away in Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino

Good to know: the abbey requires all 11 rooms booked for three nights alongside the wedding, and flowers, lighting and transport go through its partners. It is the premium option on this list. June on the Ligurian coast also sees more showers than further south, so the indoor backup is worth a look.

Best for: couples who want outdoor dancing by the sea, historic architecture and the glamour of Portofino, and who are happy at 180 guests or fewer.

3. Villa Eva

Location: Ravello, Amalfi Coast, Italy

A private, event-only villa set in 3,000 square meters of romantic gardens high above the Amalfi Coast. It sits in Ravello's historic center, between the famous gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone.

The day: a sea-view ceremony in the gardens, cocktails with Ravello lemon spritzes, pizzas from the villa's own wood-fired oven during the aperitivo, then a seated Amalfi dinner of local seafood and handmade pasta.

At a glance

  • Fly into Naples, then 75 to 90 minutes on winding coastal roads

  • Takes 200 guests, and the villa is yours alone for the day

  • Dinner until midnight, with the party running to 2am on the bar package

  • In-house catering from the family that owns the villa and Hotel Villa Maria next door

  • Many guests can walk to the wedding from Ravello hotels such as Villa Maria, Belmond Caruso and Palazzo Avino

Good to know: most exclusive villas on the Amalfi Coast cap out around 120 guests, which makes Villa Eva rare. Ravello's hotels are small, so room blocks need to be secured early, and guests staying down on the coast will need shuttles.

Best for: couples who want the Amalfi Coast at its most romantic, a walkable wedding weekend and very good value for a venue of this caliber.

4. Castello Lanza Branciforte

Location: Trabia, Palermo

Billed as Sicily's oldest castle, with a Norman tower and 22,000 square meters of grounds running down to the sea near Palermo.

The day moves through the castle: ceremony on the lawns above the water, aperitivo on the Prince's Terrace, a grand starter buffet in the Arab Garden, then a seated dinner in the Norman Court beneath a giant ficus strung with lights.

At a glance

  • Fly into Palermo, about 50 minutes away

  • Hosts 200 guests with room to spare

  • The party runs until 2am, with outdoor music lowered around 1:30am

  • In-house Sicilian catering, with oysters, local cheeses and cured meats on the starter buffet

  • No rooms on site; the nearest resort is next door, with more choice in Cefalù and Palermo

Good to know: this is the warmest, driest option on the list, with little June rain on average. It is also an experienced, high-volume wedding venue, so ask how they make each wedding feel personal.

Best for: couples who want a castle, reliable sunshine and generous Sicilian food at a very approachable venue fee.

5. Villa San Vigilio

Location: Lake Garda, Italy

A Renaissance villa built in 1520 on its own point of land, still lived in by the same family. Italian gardens of lemon trees and cypresses lead to a belvedere over the lake, with Monte Baldo rising behind.

The day: ceremony in the garden facing the lake and mountains, dinner among the lemon trees, then the party moves down to the historic cellar after midnight.

At a glance

  • Fly into Verona, about 45 minutes away

  • Hosts up to 200 guests

  • Gardens until midnight, then the cellar until 2am

  • Catering from a shortlist of six partner caterers who know the villa

  • Guests stay in the lakeside towns of Garda and Bardolino, minutes away

Good to know: Lake Garda sees more June showers and afternoon storms than the coast, so plan on a tent as the rain backup. In return you get the most secluded setting on this list.

Best for: couples who want a lake with mountains instead of the sea, true privacy and a stone villa that feels lived in.

8 questions to ask before you fall in love with a venue

The photos never tell you the rules. These are the questions that separated the final five from the rest.

  1. Where does the ceremony happen at our guest count? A garden that looks endless in photos may be rated for 180, not 200.

  2. Is the whole property ours, or just the event spaces? Hotels and art foundations often stay open to other guests or visitors during the day.

  3. When does outdoor music stop, and where does the party go after? "Until 3am" can mean indoors from 11pm.

  4. What is the rain plan for our full guest list? Many indoor backups seat 80 to 150. Above that, you are pricing a marquee.

  5. Is it dry hire or all-inclusive? A low venue fee can grow quickly once caterer, furniture, lighting and staff are added.

  6. Do we have to use your caterer or suppliers? Ask for menus and a tasting before you sign.

  7. Are rooms on site required, and for how many nights? Some venues tie the wedding to a multi-night room buyout.

  8. How far are the hotels our guests will actually book? Under 20 minutes makes the whole weekend easier.

The Bottom Line

Every one of these venues is exceptional. The right one depends on what matters most to you: a castle, outdoor dancing, reliable sunshine, a walkable weekend or the widest choice of food.

That is exactly what our venue sourcing service is for. You tell us your guest count, dates, budget and the feeling you want. We search, contact the venues, get the real answers on capacity, music and rain plans, and hand you a shortlist you can trust.
